As of now, there are no plans to drastically change the way the board is run. Specific goals and objectives are difficult to plan for an organization like the SAB. The members and their demographics change each year and it’s awfully hard to prepare for a group when there is no clear indication of who will be a part of it.

Public Relations Opportunity and Problems:

The Student Advisory Board is committed to creating a group of students that is diverse, fun and most importantly dedicated. In order to achieve this goal, it is imperative that their recruiting be the best it can be.

As of now, the Bucs advertise for the board by hanging posters in area high schools. The posters are very appealing to any student who is familiar with the Buccaneers and their logo. The Bucs also take advantage of local media for recruiting. Several announcements are made in the newspapers at the time that applications are available.

I have discovered that since they are not yet recruiting for next year, it is very hard to find information on the group. The only web site that has information for the Student Advisory Board is linked to the community programs page off the Bucs’ web site. The site only has two paragraphs of text, which very briefly describe the board.

There is no information about what the board does, how to be a member or why someone should want to be a part of the team.

I think their biggest public relations necessity is a web page. This will help them tremendously in the recruiting process. It will also help make the SAB more recognizable and respectable in the community.

Currently at the site, the picture is of team members that are no longer part of the SAB. I also realized that the SAB has not gotten as much media coverage as they deserve for what they have done. I think part of this problem is that it is very hard to get in touch with anyone from the board because there is no indication of who runs the board or works in that department.

I think more intense recruiting and including a new web site in the recruiting process will benefit the SAB greatly. I also think that the publications should be seen all around the community, not just in schools. By introducing pamphlets and posters to places where students are, will help to attract a more diverse group of students. Some students never set foot in the front office and never get a chance to see the posters. By making posters and flier that are visible in malls, movie theatres, public libraries and grocery stores, it will give all students a chance to apply for the team.
