Column One

Earlier Today, in the city of Washington DC an eruption of men, women, and children gathered onto the streets, in prayer, just outside the Supreme Court House. The Christians were praying due to an outrageous lawsuit against a fellow Christian babysitter, Jenny Hampton. The charges were brought against Miss Hampton by elementary school teacher Argonal Frazel.

Apparently, Argonal Frazel had hired Jenny Hampton as a full time babysitter on the weekends. Argonal Frazel, an atheist, did not want his children exposed to any form of Religion. However, the only dedicated and responsible teenager willing to watch his children was a Christian, Miss Hampton. Hence, Mr. Frazel told Miss Hampton, who was in desperate need of a job, that he would only hire her on one condition; he would only hire her if she promised not to expose his children to Religion. “Jenny Hampton was being paid to watch and care for my children; she was not being paid to expose my children to nonsense,” said Mr. Frazel.

Column Two

Miss Hampton had been babysitting at the Frazel’s Home. Miss Hampton exclaimed, “Once I had put the children to bed, I went downstairs to pray to God. While I was praying I felt a tug on my shirt, and sure enough it was the children. They asked me what I was doing, and so I explained to them that I was praying to my God.”

Evidently, the children had asked so many questions that Miss Hampton just about explained the whole belief of Christianity. In fact, Miss Hampton said that once she had explained Christianity to them; the children gave their hearts to Christ.

Once Mr. Frazel had found out that Miss Hampton told his children of Christianity, he became extremely upset and decided to press charges against Miss. Hampton for disobeying his command.

Column Two

Jenny Hampton stated, “It is true that I explained the belief of Christianity to Mr. Frazel’s children. However, Mr. Frazel asked me not to expose his kids to Religion; not Christianity. Many of you may think or view Christianity as a Religion, but truthfully Christianity is a RELATIONSHIP with our Creator, God. Christianity is a relationship between father and son; God is my Father and I am his child. A relationship which is not based on rules or regulations, like religion, but which is based solely on the principle of LOVE. In Religion, the belief is that you must do certain rituals or obey certain laws to earn salvation (Mikalee 1). In Christianity, everything to earn salvation has already been accomplished by Jesus, when he was crucified and resurrected for our sins. It is not our good works, or what we do that gets us into Heaven, but it is by God’s mercy and grace that we have salvation. Thus, I did not expose Mr. Frazel’s children to Religion, but I exposed them to Christianity, which is not a Religion.”

Endnote for News Article

I chose this genre in order to demonstrate the main difference between Religion and Christianity. I searched my dorm room to find a perfect newspaper, which I used as a guideline to follow while I created my own news article. I found most of the information from the internet and from my friend’s favorite book, The Case for Christ. The information that I used from the internet came from a Christian web sites, called “the why man Jesus answers” and “youth on the rock”. I used this particular genre to show the major difference in Religion and Christianity, their meanings. Religion believes that good works will get ones self into Heaven. On the other hand, Christianity believes that we are saved though our faith in Jesus Christ. Christians believe that Christ died and was resurrected in order to pay the price for our sins, which means we are saved by God’s mercy, forgiveness, and love. So far, all of the information I have found on this topic points out that Christianity is definitely not a Religion, even by Webster’s Dictionary.

Stephen,

Hey, how are you? I’m so sorry that I did not get to say good bye the other day; I was just busy trying to find the answers to the questions you were asking me at the dinner table. Well, guess what I found? I’m pretty sure I found the answers to all your questions about Christianity NOT being a religion, but rather a relationship. First, I called my youth pastor to get some information and he offered me some books on the topic, but I was not able to get them because he lives about twenty minutes away. And I DON’T have a CAR available at college. However, I did find a lot of information in the Bible, and on some Christian web site. Christianity is unique in the fact that it is the only faith which is not a religion. Religion, by definition means “to be bound” by regulations and rituals in order to attain salvation. This definition of religion is extremely different from the teachings of the most anti-religious person, Jesus Christ. Jesus taught, to those who would listen, that faith alone in His sacrificial death and resurrection for our sins would save us and NOT our good deeds. If you want proof of this statement, please feel free to look up Ephesians 2: 8-9.

We are saved by faith and our salvation is demonstrated by good works, but it is not the works that save us. You see Stephen; religion is humanity trying to reach God by their own efforts, while Christianity is God paying the ransom Himself. Christianity is a relationship with our creator. If you’re still not convinced, then consider Isaiah 64:6. I wish I could be there to explain this to you in person, but, in the meantime take care of yourself and I will talk to you later on. Write Back PLEASE…..!

Your cousin,

Franklin

Endnote for Letter

I chose this genre in order to provide the reader with answers to questions that they might have about this topic. I searched my drawers and shelves to find a letter from home that I received two weeks ago, in order to use it as a guide line to follow while I created my own letter to an imaginary friend. I thought this entry would have a great impact on the reader because I felt that it explained information about the subject very well and a lot of people can relate to Stephen and Frankie in the letter. I found most of the information from the internet and from my own knowledge as well. The information that I used from the internet came from a Christian web site, called “the why man Jesus answers.” The author of this web site does not reveal his identity, but he does tell the reader that he is a servant, doing the will of Christ. The information I used from the web site was most of the body of the letter explaining the differences between Christianity and Religion. All of the information I have acquired so far has answered my question completely. Christianity is not a Religion, and it should not be considered on either.

Christianity

Meaning: A Christian is one who believes in Jesus Christ and allows the Holy Spirit to guide and direct him (Syswerda 1589).

To Get to Heaven: Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me” (Syswerda 1324).

If any man wants to come to the Father he also wants a relationship with Him that will ultimately lead to an eternal life with Him. Salvation is by God’s grace, not by individual works. Salvation must be received by faith.

Similarities

Christianity and Religion are both words in the English language. They both have ways of getting to Heaven. Christianity and Religion both give humans something to follow or believe in.

Religion

Meaning: Religion is basically a set of laws, rules or regulations that are to be followed in order to attain salvation. Religion is humanity trying to reach God by their own efforts (Mikalee 1).

To Get to Heaven: One must do certain things or obey certain laws in order to please God and have salvation. In Religion, people believe that they have to earn salvation by what they do.

Practices: People who are Religious do certain activities or obey certain rules to get to heaven.

Practices: Christians are saved by faith in Christ Jesus and their good works demonstrates their faith and belief in Christ Jesus.

For example, some Religions have to: do door to door proselytizing, can not eat or drink certain foods or liquids, pray a certain number of times daily, fast doing certain months, make certain pilgrimages, meditate a certain amount of times daily, improve the society, obeying every single commandment, be baptized, be married, and even be knowledgeable.

Endnote for Comparable Chart

I chose this particular genre to show the reader some of the differences and similarities between Christianity and Religion. I obtained most of my information from two Christian web sites, called “the why man Jesus answers” and “youth on the rock. I also used information from the book, Case for Christ, written by Lee Strobel. Both of these web sites and the book gave me information dealing with the definitions of Religion and True Christianity. I used this comparable chart to directly show the major differences between the two words, Christianity and Religion. I took the beliefs of Christianity and Religion and provided explicit detail on their beliefs to show the differences and similarities. Thus, all of the genres and information I have collected and all of the knowledge I have gained through out my search leads me to believe that Christianity is absolutely not a Religion.
